Was debating loboto.my, stea.my and a bunch of other stuff. Econo.my was taken up dang!

But hey, Stor.my isn’t too bad either. Short, and simply… flashy and loud.

Do you need a blog?

I’ve decided to blog again.

And the reason is this: in the next couple of years if and when I’m perhaps applying for that big job somewhere, my prospective employers are probably going to Google/Bing/Yahoo! my name up to see what I’ve been up to. Maybe even look me up on Linkdn or Facebook to see incriminating photos of my misspent youth. Oh dear.

So rather than leave it to the fates and have them trawl up the web about me, what about I take the initiative to put up stuff about Reza Baharin (hello search engine spiders!) that I can have control over. Reza 1. Teh internets 0.

Of course, 20 years down the line, I’m probably very likely to look at the stuff I posted and think “OMG” to the many things I would have posted along the way. Stuff like my thoughts on certain issues at the time which may giveaway my political compass. And other less-than-desirable posts linking to less-than-desirable websites. Stuff that you probably wouldn’t associate with a 40-plus year old.

Which brings me to self-censorship. Not exactly what I would like to do, but with a career ahead of me, perhaps that’ll be for the better. The future me will thank the wisdom of my 26 year old self, I am sure of it.

I need an excuse…

… to start playing around with MySQL and PHP again. A blog will do the trick. Tinkering around with PHP & SQL will at least give me some amount of +1 to my 1337-ness. Going to try and get that URL registered today. And start tinkering heading up to Sg in October. That’ll give me something productive other than bursts of HL2:DM (Gawd is that game old!). And the occasional Fallout 3. Which reminds me, I still have FFXII to complete before XIII comes out. But wait, I need a PS3 for that.

Haha, guess that’s going onto the wishlist.

Twitter into WordPress

Objective: Roll existing Twitter feed into automatic blog posts. If this blog wasn’t hosted here, I could probably roll my own feed. Trying to find workarounds now.

EDIT: Aha! Found the solution as a WP plugin. Now to get this spaceship off this rock and somewhere where I can play emperor with the server.

EDIT2: Sweetcron! But hell if I’m going to figure out how to do things from scratch again.
